Supporting Justice and Community: Why We’re Proud to Donate to the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition This February

At Borrowed Leather Goods, we believe that small businesses can, and should, be engines of positive change. That’s why we donate 10% of our profits each month to a nonprofit organization doing important work in our communities. For the month of February, we are honored to support the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition (PIRC) -- an organization whose mission, values, and impact truly align with our commitment to justice, dignity, and inclusion.

Who Is the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition?

The Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition is a grassroots, volunteer-powered organization based in Portland, Oregon, dedicated to defending and advancing the rights of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. PIRC works tirelessly to promote human rights, prevent discrimination, and ensure safe, welcoming communities for all who call this region home.

For years, PIRC has been on the frontlines of advocacy, community organizing, direct support, and education, standing with individuals and families as they navigate complex legal and social systems.

PIRC’s work spans multiple vital areas, including:

Direct Legal Support and Resources
PIRC connects immigrants with trusted legal services and helps individuals understand their rights. In a landscape where access to legal counsel can make all the difference, this support brings clarity, dignity, and hope.

Community Engagement and Education
Through workshops, outreach events, and public campaigns, PIRC helps communities understand immigration policy, rights, and avenues for support, empowering people with knowledge and resources to protect themselves and their neighbors.

Advocacy and Policy Reform
PIRC advocates for humane and just immigration policies at the local, state, and national levels. They work to ensure laws and regulations reflect human dignity and protect vulnerable populations.

Building Inclusive Communities
At its core, PIRC fosters belonging. Their work brings people together across cultures, identities, and backgrounds to build solidarity and mutual support.

Why We Choose to Support PIRC

There are many organizations doing meaningful work, but we chose the Portland Immigrant Rights Coalition for several important reasons:

They Advance Human Rights -- PIRC stands up for fundamental principles of fairness and justice at a time when immigrant communities face uncertainty and hardship. Their efforts help protect people’s safety, freedom, and opportunity.

They Serve Real Needs in Our Region -- As a business based in the Pacific Northwest, we care deeply about the wellbeing of our neighbors. PIRC’s presence directly strengthens our community, offering resources and compassion where it’s needed most.

They Empower and Educate -- PIRC doesn’t just provide services, they build understanding. They teach people about their rights and how to protect them, creating long-term change that ripples outward.

They Embody Compassion and Dignity -- Their work reminds us that every person deserves respect, opportunity, and a place to call home. That’s a message we are proud to uplift.
